Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The book starts with the big origin stories, including the creation of the world, the fall into sin, the flood, and the tower of Babel. Then Genesis focuses on Abraham and his family. As you read, one thing to consider is God's covenant relationship with his people. How does God's relationship with his people develop over Genesis?

Day 64

The Song of Moses

Read: Deuteronomy 32-34

Moses is about to die but he has a song in his heart because of his relationship to God. His song is about God. He speaks in his song of God’s greatness and of his faithfulness. Over and over again, he calls God the “Rock.” The New Testament tells us that Christ is the Rock, the foundation upon which we are firmly established.

When we think of God, we also think of his work. Moses thinks of how God had graciously made Israel his people. But Moses also describes how Israel had failed to respond in love and obedience. This is the story of the entire Bible: God’s grace and man’s response. Let us be sure that we respond in faith, living a life that pleases God.

Moses also pronounced his blessing on each tribe, even as Jacob had done before he died (Deut. 33). As we grow older, let us not think only of ourselves. As aches and pains increase, it is easy to grow more and more self-centered. Let us be concerned with the future of God’s people. Let us pray for revival in the church. Let us pray more and more for the spiritual welfare of our children and grandchildren.

The book concludes with Moses standing on Mount Pisgah, seeing with his own eyes but not entering the land which his people will possess. With the reins of his leadership turned over to Joshua, Moses the servant of the Lord dies there in the land of Moab, and he buried him there in an unmarked grave.

PRAYER
Father, raise up deeply godly men and women to be spiritual leaders in the next generation. In Christ. Amen.
