Read: Numbers 11-13

If you haven’t noticed, God’s people have their faults. The people grumbled. Paul writing to the Corinthians urges us to learn a lesson from what happened to them. God was providing their daily bread, and they weren’t satisfied. They remembered the variety of food they had in Egypt, forgetting the bitterness of their slavery there. God gave them what they wanted, but as the psalmist commented, with it “sent leanness into their soul” (Ps. 106:15 KJV). It is a frightening thing that if we insist, God may give us what we want even if it is not good for us.

Moses also had to contend with the criticism of his brother and sister. Moses was involved in an interracial marriage, and his family objected.

Finally, when the spies came back from looking over the Promised Land, they had a bad attitude. They saw all the difficulties, forgetting that God is sovereign. Because they forgot they were the people of God, they had an inferiority complex. They said that they felt like grasshoppers in the presence of the giants, and that those giants also looked down on them. Never have an inferiority complex; you are a child of God purchased with the precious blood of Christ. When you have a low estimate of yourself, others will also have a low estimate of you, making you ineffective in the service of Christ.
