Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The book starts with the big origin stories, including the creation of the world, the fall into sin, the flood, and the tower of Babel. Then Genesis focuses on Abraham and his family. As you read, one thing to consider is God's covenant relationship with his people. How does God's relationship with his people develop over Genesis?

Day 304

Jesus and His Followers

Read: Luke 9-10

Since we are called to follow Jesus, we can learn about our relationship to him as we note how he dealt with his followers when he was here on earth.

Jesus empowered his followers for the task to which he called them (9:1). When God directly or through his church calls you to a task, do not say you are unable to do it. When Jesus calls us to do something, he will surely give us the ability to do it.

Jesus uses his disciples to help other people (9:16). He wants us to be instruments through whom he will work in the world today. The needs are so great, Jesus wants to use you.

Jesus prayed with his disciples (9:18). He is always praying for us as he is now seated at the right hand of the Father, and when we earnestly pray in his name, he presents our prayers to the Father, who will certainly answer them for his sake.

Jesus calls his disciples to sacrifice (9:23). Salvation is free, but the saved are called to be his followers who pay a price. There will be difficulties, but to those who are faithful there will be a reward well out of all proportion to the sacrifices made for the great cause.

Jesus revealed himself more fully to his disciples (9:29). Why did only three experience seeing the transfiguration? Apparently they were closest to him, and they wanted to know him more fully. Do you?

PRAYER
Father, as we follow your Son, empower us, use us, and give us the courage to pay whatever price necessary. Amen.
