Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The book starts with the big origin stories, including the creation of the world, the fall into sin, the flood, and the tower of Babel. Then Genesis focuses on Abraham and his family. As you read, one thing to consider is God's covenant relationship with his people. How does God's relationship with his people develop over Genesis?

Day 300

To You Is Born a Savior

Read: Luke 1-2

Many stories about Jesus were floating around, so Luke carefully investigates to be sure his account is accurate. It is possible that he interviewed Mary, Elizabeth, and others. He alone provides us with information about the words of the angels who told Zechariah and Mary about the amazing births which were to take place. He alone tells us how Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,” and Zechariah, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel” and tells us of the angels proclaiming the good news to the shepherds.

God first brought the message to shepherds, common humble men, not to kings or priests. How they must have been startled when suddenly the sky was bright and an angel said, “To you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” How they must have listened in awe as the angels praised God and spoke of his glory and peace.

But then the darkness of night returned, for the angels had departed. This is the crucial moment. What will they do? They make the right decision: they hasten to find this wonderful Child. And seeing him, what do they do? They go quickly and tell others. Our response to the message of the birth of the Savior must be similar. Let us meet him personally, which we can do by faith, knowing many more wonderful things about him than the shepherds did, and then let us tell others of how wonderful it is to meet Jesus.

PRAYER
Father, we thank you that your Son was willing to step out of the ivory palaces into our world for us. Amen.
