Genesis
Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The book starts with the big origin stories, including the creation of the world, the fall into sin, the flood, and the tower of Babel. Then Genesis focuses on Abraham and his family. As you read, one thing to consider is God's covenant relationship with his people. How does God's relationship with his people develop over Genesis?

Day 113

Open Our Eyes

Read: 2 Kings 6-8

God gives Elisha supernatural power and he is able to tell the king of Israel the military plans of the king of Syria. The king of Syria foolishly thinks that he can capture Elisha. He sends troops to do this, and when the servant of Elisha sees these troops surrounding the city, he is filled with fear. But Elisha said, “Fear not, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (6:16). Again and again, God tells his people in the Bible not to be afraid. That is his message to us today. Some time ago, I had open-heart surgery. All through the first agonizing night, I kept repeating God’s promise to me, “Fear not, for I am with you,” and that got me through the night.

We need not be afraid because we serve a sovereign God. Elisha prayed that the eyes of the servant may be opened so that he would see the powerful forces of God surrounding them to protect them. May God open our eyes so that we may see, with the vision of faith, unseen spiritual realities.

Elisha prayed that Ben-hadad’s army would be smitten with blindness. He then led them into captivity and prayed that their eyes may again be opened so they may see the dangerous situation they are now in. May the eyes of those who are not God’s people in our day be opened to see their spiritual danger and flee to Christ.

PRAYER
Father, open our eyes to see your great power so that we may not fear. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
