Read: 1 Timothy 2:1-6
I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. (v. 1)
Whoever believes in Jesus Christ has already received the title ‘son’ or ‘daughter’ (1 John 3:1). This title and the inheritance in Christ give us the freedom to stand boldly in front of his throne at a time of need to ask for divine intervention. In other words, the Word of God in our mouths has the same power as when it comes out from the mouth of the Almighty.
Prayer is a means of communication with our heavenly Father to ask not only for our needs, but also for those of others, including (and especially) those who aren’t yet followers of Jesus. Each one of us is surrounded by people who have some level of influence in our life. Our duty is to pray for all of them. Today’s reading even suggests that praying for leaders and others in authority helps create “a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way” (1 Tim. 2:2). Our prayers point to Jesus’s supremacy over all (v. 5).
Sometimes, we pray and it seems like nothing is changing. Circumstances may even get worse. In that case, we need to persevere more than every other time. In prayer, we plant a seed but it is God who brings it into existence.
As you pray, ask God to bless every person you meet, and pray that the Holy Spirit will work in their lives.
