Time Management

Read: Ephesians 5:15-17

. . . making the best use of the time. (v. 16)

Each day we have 24 hours to use, which equates to 1,440 minutes or 86,440 seconds. You have chosen to use a few minutes to read this devotional. How will you spend the remaining hours, minutes, and seconds of this day?

Time is precious, and in the overstretched busy lifestyle of many people—time is scarce. Despite advancements in technology that may help us accomplish things faster, it’s easy for us to waste time. We don’t always allocate enough time for family, exercise, sleep, renewal, vacation, friends, and God. But we can offer Psalm 90:12 as a prayer to God: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (NIV). In Ephesians 5:15-16, the apostle Paul instructs us: “Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.”

To make the most of the time we have and to be a faithful steward of our time, clear and appropriate priorities and boundaries enable us to make good choices. Thinking about what God is calling us to do can help us make godly decisions when we are struggling with balancing many demands on our time, as well as prioritizing faith, family, and work ahead of other things.

Life is short and tomorrow is not guaranteed. How will you honor God, bless others, and make the most of the time God gives you today?

As you pray, ask God to help you be a faithful steward of time.
