Is This Heaven?

Read: John 14:1-14

In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? (v. 2)

Arriving at the baseball field, I saw families and friends playing catch, batting, and running the bases. This was no ordinary diamond. Instead, these people played on the remnants of the 1989 movie set used for Field of Dreams. Universal Studios built this diamond on a farm near Dyersville, Iowa, for their film about a farmer who built a baseball diamond on his corn field. Wandering around, I thought of the famous line from the movie, “Is this heaven?” “No, it’s Iowa.” When the producers selected this farm, they had no idea that thirty some years after the movie, tens of thousands of visitors would find “a little piece of heaven” annually.

Hollywood unintentionally built what seemed like heaven for baseball lovers, but Jesus deliberately prepared a place in heaven for all who trust him for salvation. Our Savior has constructed a unique spot for us in God’s house. Heaven is where we will live in right relationship with our heavenly Father because Jesus has eliminated our sins that separated us from God.

It took months of planning to build a baseball diamond on an Iowa field. Since Adam and Eve first sinned, God planned to send his Son, making it possible for believers to enter his presence. When we arrive, we can ask, “Is this heaven?” Then we can know the answer, “Yes, it is. Jesus prepared it for me.”

As you pray, thank Jesus for preparing a way for you to get to heaven.
