Read: Psalm 27
I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalm 23:6b)
What do we know for certain? We know that the sun will rise, and the sun will set each day. We experience gravity that keeps us on earth. We also know for certain that we have the gift of today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.
David said with certainty and confidence that he would “dwell in the house of the Lord forever” (Ps. 23:6). Being in the presence of God is where David wanted to be. Psalm 27 speaks of David’s one desire: to “dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life” (v. 4). That is where he felt most secure. For David knew that with God, he would not be in want. He was cared for and restored by his Shepherd’s presence and provision. His Shepherd would lead him and guide him. He would never leave David even when David walked through dark valleys. David knew the goodness of God and experienced his mercy. And because of this, he knew he would dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
We can also be assured of living with God forever. When we believe in Jesus and trust him to save us from our sin, we can be assured that we will live with him forever (John 3:16). We can confidently say with David, “I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever” (Ps. 23:6). Are you able to say this with certainty? If not, commit to learning more about Jesus this year.
As you pray, walk assured of your salvation.
