Hope for the Day

Read: Lamentations 3:21-26

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. (vv. 22-23)

Agnesa, a young mother living in Albania, received her first Bible from her sister. Agnesa belongs to a Muslim family, yet over the past year she had sensed a change in her sister. Her sister seemed more joyful. More peaceful. Now she was telling Agnesa that these changes were because of someone named Jesus whom the Bible would tell her about. Later that night, Agnesa showed the Bible to her husband. But he tore it out of her hands, ripping pages and crumpling them to the floor. “There will be no Bibles in this house!” he shouted.

Yet God in his mercy was not done with Agnesa. She found a Christian broadcast on her radio and started listening secretly with headphones. These radio programs contained the words of hope she needed for each day. When she felt discouraged and lonely, she would hear about how Jesus was always with her. When she needed patience, she would hear how God could give her strength even when she felt her weakest.

In what ways can you tune in to God’s mercies today? There may be people in your life who discourage or hurt you, but God can raise you up. He can make you new. Our Lord desires to be in relationship with you each and every day. There are truths he wants to tell you. Are you listening?—Megan Nollet, WOH staff

As you pray, listen for God.
