Read: Proverbs 8
For wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. (v. 11)
The book of Proverbs tells us clearly—there is no wisdom without God. Biblical wisdom is seeing and responding to life from God’s perspective. What does God’s wisdom do? First, wisdom opens the door to understanding God’s great, eternal gift: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:16-17). When we have the wisdom to receive God’s gift, we have eternal life.
Second, wisdom gives your life eternal purpose: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). God’s wisdom gives you purpose to tell his story.
Third, wisdom shows you how to respond to that purpose: “And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself’” (Matthew 22:37-39). Love shows wisdom in action. Trust the gift of God’s wisdom, tell others about it, and live it yourself—forever. —Bob James
As you pray, thank God for the gift of his wisdom.
