Our Work / East Africa / Nuer
Background
The Nuer programs are produced at the Lokichoggio Ministry Center on the border between northern Kenya and southern Sudan. Broadcast partner MERF shares: “Most southern Sudanese remain illiterate. There are only a very few trained pastors serving many large, growing congregations. Not only are the gospel radio messages helpful in giving much-needed spiritual nurture, MERF’s growing training programs are beginning to meet some of these needs. The Lokichoggio Center has already provided the church with over 500 trained workers.
Ministry Updates
South Sudan was torn apart by civil war for fifty years. But in spite of the war, there has been great gospel advance. Now about 2.8 million belong to the Evangeli¬cal/Reformed communities in South Sudan alone. “There is so much progress in the ministry,” reports David Wat. “People are converted daily to Christ by hearing the gospel through our programs. The ministry is going more smoothly than three years ago. However, there is a problem of communication because some people have no access to give us their feedback.”
According to extensive audience research conducted by the Words of Hope-sponsored Media Research Institute, these are the most listened to broadcasts among southern Sudanese listeners.

These Nuer programs are having a very big impact on the growth of the church. They have encouraged many to join a church. Some are copying the Bible through what they are listening to in the program. It is encouraging peace and unity among the Nuer.
Read More ResponsesWe listen regularly every evening. Here in the military camp we sometimes don’t have a church. The radio is our church. All of us are now Christians. The death of Jesus Christ has united us. We now have hope because of the unity we’ve found in Christ.
