Our Work / South Asia / Garhwali
Background
The Garhwal is a mountainous region where the River Ganges emerges from the Himalayas. It is home to many of Hinduism’s most holy places with numerous shrines for Hindu pilgrimages. Radio is one of the best means for taking the gospel to these isolated mountain dwellers.
It is estimated that there are only one thousand Garhwal believers. The Garhwali radio program “Asha Ko Rahbar” is well received as radio remains a popular means of entertainment and information, especially in the rural areas. People tune in and listen to the broadcasts. Many write back eager to know more.
Ministry Updates
Producer Rajesh Mansell has been able to establish good relations with a number of listeners. As part of the follow-up, he makes efforts to meet them in person, communicates with them over telephone, writes to them, and does all he can to establish a friendship. Radio is a very available and useful tool to spread the Word of God. Rajesh was able to travel to a remote area of Garhwal (Uttarakhand) in January 2009, an area he says has never been visited by any evangelist before. He went there to meet listeners of his program, and had a very fruitful time as he was able to interact with many enthusiastic listeners.

My family listens regularly without fail to the radio program. After receiving Christ my life has changed. Now I am growing in Christ. My final aim has now become to save as many souls as possible. Through Words of Hope Garhwali programs, my family and I have learned a lot about Christ.
