The Mind of Christ
by: Geoffrey Cox
Some people have attitude problems. For us these are likely to be rooted in sin. Paul’s answer, expressed in the famous words of the “Christ-hymn” of Philippians 2, is to get a new attitude. Let’s try to draw out what it means to have the mind – the attitude – of Christ.
- Gaze at Jesus till he fills your view.
- Think about Jesus till he fills your mind.
- Copy Jesus till he fills your actions.
- Love Jesus till he overflows your life.
- Delight in Jesus, in the beauty of his sacrificial self-giving.
- Imitate Jesus, in the awesome downward progression of his self-humbling.
- Obey Jesus, by joining him in a servant’s work.
- Worship Jesus, the highly exalted Lord, bowing the knee and confessing with the tongue what one day will be acknowledged by the whole universe.
This worship is more certain to happen than is the fact that the sun will rise tomorrow. Grow into the reality of the creation’s future worship by learning to do it now. Submit in love and thanks to Jesus as King, and declare by every thought and word that “Jesus Christ is Lord.”
