Our Mission of Transmission

In an automobile it is the transmission that transmits the power from the motor to the
wheels. The most powerful motor in the world will not move the car unless the transmission
is in working order. By the same token, the finest wheels will not turn unless the
transmission is engaged.

One of the great spiritual mysteries of Christianity is God’s use of human beings as
the transmitting agents of his power. That God has done this is unquestioned. But God is
aware of human weakness and frailty. He knows we cannot do it on our own. Hence, he
promises to be a constant companion in every situation of life. “All power is given unto
me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore . . . and lo, I am with you always” (v. 19).
All power is available to us as God’s transmitting agents if we will only permit that
power to surge through us. The motor has limitless power, the wheels can roll to every
nation and tongue and tribe, provided the transmission is properly engaged.

To the Christian church God places the supreme challenge. It is not, “Can you do it?”
He knows that unassisted we can only fail. It is rather, “Will you do it? Will you be my
hands? My feet? My voice? Will you permit my power to surge through you? Will you
recognize that your greatest mission in life is the transmission of my gospel? If so, go,
and teach all nations!” – Dr. and Mrs. Donald T. Bosch (10-1-68)
